Soaring Lion's Head
Grove and I managed a quick flight at Signals a few days ago. We showed up on the hill, late morning, to find perfect conditions. As we rigged, the winds picked up and by the time we were ready, it was gusting to 51kmh from the WSW. So we decided to derig, go and get some lunch and wait for things to mellow. This is the first time I have had to derig without flying in 3 years!
Arriving back on the hill a couple hours later, conditions were good, so we rigged quickly and were in the air without delay.
Grove on Lion's Head
We climbed out rapidly into the classic, laminar air and headed for Lion's Head. Cloudbase was close to the top of Lion's Head, so we couldn't head for the Apostles. Instead, we boated around the site, out over Bantry Bay and Sea Point staying just under the cloud.
We glided together for long stretches comparing the performance of our wings, sometimes flying wing-tip to wing-tip. My Wills Wing U2 145 held it's own against Grove's bigger U2 160. These are fantastic gliders.

Eventually, a rain squall started moving in from the sea, so we headed out to land over the newly completed World Cup Stadium.
The World Cup stadium is finished and looking good.
We both had excellent landings at Mouille Point, right opposite the bar, and had a cold one while derigging... ahhh.
The warm rain caught us in the end, and we got soaked as we got our gliders packed up and on the car. Good times!!!
