Thunderbolt returns

Eric "Thunderbolt" van der Walt and I started hang-gliding together many years ago. Eric has been in self-imposed HG retirement for several years, however, he has always been keen to get back into flying. Finally the opportunity presented itself and Eric has begun to dust off the cobwebs and get back in the air. Here are some photos from a fun session we had on the Hout Bay dunes one Saturday afternoon.

The dunes aren't really that conducive to hang-gliding, especially at high tide, but with a strong southerly, you can get in as many flights of 5 seconds or so as you wish. These are really good for practicing launching and landing, which is the most demanding part of hang gliding.

After Eric got in a good 15 or so skims, we lugged the glider to the top of the dunes and I flew down the beach to the car. Good times with my old hang gliding buddy.
